The Reds were looking for their first points of the season as they made the very short trip to face local rivals Redditch Borough Ladies at the Community Sports & Social Club.
Last time out Redditch were beaten 5-1 by Leamington Lions Ladies at The Your Co-Op Community Stadium. Meanwhile Borough drew 1-1 against Long Itchington Ladies at The Kenilworth Sporting Ground.
The conditions weren’t easy for The Red’s with a strong wind at times during the game and a pitch that was bogged and on a slope, Redditch knew they had to be at their best to get a result.
Redditch had the better of the first half with a flurry of chances and great football. After five minutes Maddy Sutton broke the play up in midfielder and the ball fell to forward Alice Rogers who ran into the box, but the Borough keeper was equal to it.
In the 17th minute there was a chance for forward Mya Cattell but Borough’s keeper held onto the ball. Ten minutes later Alice Rogers tested Borough’s keeper, but they palmed the ball away.
The Reds kept pushing for the opening goal of the goal and just after the half hour mark a ball was played to Mya Cattell who held the ball up and played in forward partner Alice Rogers who slotted the ball into the net to give The Reds a well deserved lead.
There was a couple of chances for Borough during the first half, but Red’s keeper Annie Davies pulled off two good saves to deny them.
Redditch had a couple of chances to double their lead before the break. Firstly, Chloe Bailey was teed up from a well worked free kick but her shot went wide of the post and then on the stroke of half time Mya Cattell had her shot but didn’t have enough pace on the ball and Borough’s keeper held the ball.
Into the second half and The Reds ending up succumbing to enormous amounts of pressure and struggled to create any clear cut chances. Borough scored their two goals in the 56th and 83rd minute respectively.
It certainly was a tail of two halves, but The Reds will be encouraged and incredibly proud of their performance throughout the game. Not only was there some great attacking play but the defending from Jenny Bugg-Millar, Ellie Baker and Shannon Waine was top class throughout the game.
