The Red’s went into Sunday’s game at The Dell Stadium against Sedgley & Gornal United Women with a lot of confidence following their first win of the season last Sunday against Long Itchington Ladies at The Valley Stadium Powered By Impact Performance.
It was a tight and somewhat scrappy affair, but Red’s winger Chloe Bailey was on hand to score a fabulous 30-yard free kick which was worthy to win any game of football. You can view last week’s winning goal below:
Meanwhile Sedgley & Gornal were looking for their first points of the season after being defeated in all three games played this season.
The game started out pretty even with both teams struggling to carve out any openings in the opening stages. Neive Newman had a shot after ten minutes, but the keeper made a good save.
A minute later Redditch found themselves ahead after Red’s captain Casey Ryder played a lovely ball to Robyn Hall on the left-hand side who then played in Chloe Bailey who slotted the ball into the net.
The Reds wasn’t in the lead for long as Sedgley hit back immediately to equalise. Casey Ryder had an effort to restore Redditch’s lead after she had a shot from long range, but the Sedgley keeper held onto the ball.
The Reds were probing to try and retake the lead and in the 20th minute they did just that after Robyn Hall played in Chloe Bailey again who made no mistake to score her second goal of the contest.
Redditch were pushing hard for their third goal of the game Chloe Bailey played in a couple of superb balls into the box, but Robyn Hall and Liv Burke could capitalise at the end of the crosses.
Sedgley put Redditch through a bit of pressure towards the end of the half and got their rewards after The Reds gifted them a goal on the stroke of half time.
Into the second half and Redditch were pushing to retake the lead immediately after kick off Liv Burke had an effort but it hit the side netting.
Ten minutes later Chloe Bailey looked for her hat-trick, but the keeper made a good save to deny her. The hosts struggled to cope with the Redditch pressure but tried their luck with an effort that forced Annie Davies into a great save.
It was all Redditch after the 68th minute with some unbelievable football on show to try and push for a much deserved third goal. First Nieve Newman hit the bar after a long rang effort and then Chloe Bailey forced the keeper into a good save down to her left.
The Red’s were pushing and pushing and in the 76th minute some lovely play between Nieve Newman and Robyn Hall but Halls effort was superbly saved by the keeper.
A minute later the goal that Redditch had threatened all half finally came after Chloe Bailey scored her hat trick. Her shot flew past the keeper to go into the net off the post. To put The Reds into the lead.
Then came a six-minute goal blitz from The Reds to secure a second win on the bounce this season.
Firstly, in the 80th minute Chloe Bailey showed some neat footwork to play in Robyn Hall who slotted a ball through to winger Liv Burke who tucked the ball away for her first goal of the season.
Then midfielder Nieve Newman capped off a fine display in the 85th minute to score Redditch’s fifth goal of the afternoon after she latched onto a mistake in the Sedgley defence to slot the ball home for her first goal of the season.
Less than a minute later Chloe Bailey scored her fourth goal of the afternoon and The Reds sixth after Robyn Hall played an excellent through ball for Chloe Bailey to put the ball past the keeper. It was Robyn Hall’s fourth assist of the match which capped off an outstanding performance.
It was an all-round fabulous display from The Red’s especially second half which will hopefully give them the confidence in the upcoming fixtures.
Manager Matt Bailey must be pleased with how his much-changed Reds are improving on a game by game basis.
We caught up with captain Casey Ryder and scorer of our fourth goal winger Liv Burke after the game which can be viewed below:
