On Sunday The Reds were in action for the final time in 2023 as they travelled to Pershore to face sixth placed Worcester City Women Development in the West Midlands Regional League Division One.
Redditch hadn’t been in action for three weeks after games against Redditch Borough Ladies and Alvechurch Women were postponed respectively. Last time out a depleted Redditch were defeated 4-0 away at Bewdley Town Ladies meanwhile City were beaten 6-2 by division pace setters Long Itchington Ladies.
The Reds had an early chance to take the lead after Cassandra Kameni-Siewe robbed the ball from City’s keeper and it fell to Chloe Bailey who played in Olivia Burke who’s shot somehow went out for a corner.
In the fifth minute City capitalised on a misplaced pass to open the scoring. Two minutes later Redditch tried to hit back immediately as captain Casey Ryder had a shot from distance that went over the bar after Maddy Sutton won the ball back.
Then in the 14th and 24th minute respectively City found themselves 3-0 to the good after Redditch became the product of their own downfall. Firstly, a cross somehow looped into the net and then secondly a direct free kick from range which left The Red’s with it all to do.
Redditch settled down after that and had some good possession towards the back end of the half which led to a chance just before the break after Casey Ryder played in Chloe Bailey whose shot was saved by City’s keeper to ensure Worcester went into the break with a three-goal advantage.
Redditch started the second half positively as they looked to pull a goal back and five minutes into the restart Maddy Sutton played in Chloe Bailey whose shot went into the side netting.
Eight minutes later the hosts added their fourth of the contest after City latched onto a loose ball and struck a shot past Megan Burton to take an unassailable lead.
The Reds played their game and were trying to carve City open and in the 63rd minute they did just that after Maddy Sutton played a lovely through ball to Chloe Bailey who had all the time in the world to fire the ball past City’s keeper into the net.
Redditch were purring and after a stoppage in play due to Chloe Bailey having a ball kicked at her head from close range she got up and had a chance immediately from the resulting free kick, but her free kick went over the bar.
In the 72nd minute after some excellent pressing high up the pitch from debutant Fleur Douglas gifted Chloe Bailey a chance to shoot but the City keeper made a good save to push the ball out for a Redditch corner.
In the final minute of the game Camila Barqueiro who was excellent throughout the second half played in Cassandra Kameni-Siewe who showed excellent pace to leave the defenders behind and she slotted the ball into the bottom right-hand corner.
Fleur Douglas, Maisy Toy, and Hannah Ravenscroft all were given substitute appearances to make their Redditch debuts. Fleur and Maisy have both dual signed from the Redditch United Women U16s side meanwhile Hannah has been training with us throughout the season after being apart of Stourbridge Women Development set up.
